Class Descriptions
Offered at Triple Creek Therapy Riding and Rescue.
Saddling up for the road to recovery is what thousands of riders with disabilities are doing around the world at therapeutic riding centers. The benefits of horseback riding are as numerous as the types of disabilities and conditions served. Research shows that many students who participate in therapeutic riding have experienced physical, emotional, and mental rewards.
Because horseback riding gently and rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, riders with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance, and muscle strength.
Those who can not or choose not to ride also benefit from grooming and tacking up exercises. Using God’s awesome creature, the horse, can lead to increased confidence, patience, and self-esteem. All this strengthens the spirit and improves mental, and emotional well-being.
For individuals with mental or emotional disabilities, the unique relationship formed with the horse can lead to increased confidence, patience and self-esteem. The sense of independence found on horseback benefits all who ride. OR CHOOSE TO REST.
Please also note: There are many different activities used in our sessions. Some of these activities include crafts, games, chores, spending time with a horse in addition to riding. All activities are weather dependent and are chosen at the discretion of the session leader.
For safety we require EVERYONE who visits the ranch to wear sturdy, closed toed shoes. Riders should not wear silky pants/ shorts. Denim is preferred. Other items we recommend include; long pants, sunscreen, water and a snack. We also require a parent or legal guardian to remain on-site during his or her child’s session.
In our Horsemanship Classes, students will participate and learn about horses and the requirements that it takes to own a horse. We teach tack parts, horse parts, grooming, leading, and basic riding skills, all with safety first in mind. They learn to better understand their horse and improve communications with the horse. This increases confidence, patience, self-esteem and respect for others and animals.
